Today marks the official debut of YORK Athletics Mfg., a new performance footwear brand with a trailblazing health and wellness focus. The company’s ethos emphasizes individuality, creativity, and discipline. YORK Athletics Mfg. nods to the lone wolves who believe in living with intention, the underdogs carving out their own unique path in life, and the fighters who are committed to their mental and physical health. With a strong drive inspired by these standout groups of individuals, YORK Athletics Mfg. aims to provide a line of high quality performance footwear and accessories, bringing a fresh perspective to the performance space and beyond.
The YORK Athletics Mfg. approach to product is simple. The brand’s philosophy practices no compromise on performance, achieving a clean and understated look by removing the unnecessary. The YORK Athletics Mfg. line up begins with footwear as the primary focus: the Henry and the Henry Mid. The Henry is a lightweight durable trainer with a “racing shoe feel” built for everyday running. Next in line is the Henry Mid, which is cut below the ankle for maximum comfort and stability, built for the gym and urban cross training activity. YORK Athletics Mfg. will also offer a collection of performance accessories including arch compression socks, mesh 5-panel hat, knit beanie, duffle bag, and selection of tees.

In order to showcase the mindset and attitude that is the driving force within the brand, YORK Athletics Mfg. created the “Out of Step” digital journal. Through this platform, the brand’s values can be felt within the real, uncompromising, and inspiring stories from all walks of life that are motivating and entertaining. The “Out of Step” digital journal reveals insights ranging from athletes, artists, business owners, craftsmen, and musicians – bringing together truly amazing human beings, not from a specific sport or activity, but through a shared mindset. A few of these individuals include the likes of professional boxers Kevin Cobbs and Jay Kelly; artist, trainer and health/wellness advocate Marilyn Rondon; professional snowboarder Eddie Wall; and renowned professional photographer Jon Humphries who also serves as the brand photographer.
YORK Athletics Mfg. is a 3rd generation family owned business from Boston and has been outfitting athletes since 1946. Originally founded as Indian Head Shoe Company, the Manchester, NH-based manufacturer was a strong player in the performance footwear industry and continues to operate as an athletic retailer today. Notably, they have created custom high top cleats for NFL Hall-of-Famer Johnny Unitas as well as played an important role in developing one of the first turf shoes for sport. It was over beers that Mark McGarry and friend Travis York formed the original concept for YORK Athletics Mfg. and now operate the company with the same values created by Travis’ grandfather.
Footwear industry veteran Mark McGarry brings 15 years of global experience in the athletic, lifestyle and action sports industries to YORK Athletics Mfg. From his start at Savier Skateboarding (a NIKE subsidiary in the early 2000’s that became the precursor to NIKE SB) to Mark’s most recent work at the helm of PUMA’s largest footwear operation overseeing the global strategy & product creation teams for streetwear, fashion, action sports and kids categories. In 2013, Mark left PUMA to form MCGARRY&sons, a sportswear design consulting business with his wife Elizabeth, working with various emerging sportswear brands. With boxing and training playing a key role in Mark’s life, he struggled to find a performance brand he could connect with that could deliver credible performance products without compromising an understated style. Mark quickly learned that there were many other people who were searching for the same thing and thus led to the creation of YORK Athletics Mfg.
As Creative Director for YORK Athletics Mfg., Elizabeth McGarry provides an added level of experience and creativity to the brand. Beginning her career in the fashion industry assisting designers such as Veronique Branquinho in Antwerp, Belgium. After returning to the states, Elizabeth then transitioned to sportswear and has since spent nearly 15 years designing for the industry’s most progressive apparel collections for NIKE Sportswear, Reebok Classics, New Balance & PUMA. Additional accolades under Elizabeth’s belt include her collaboration with former RISD President & MIT Media Lab Professor and highly respected designer John Maeda on a collection showcased at The Museum of Modern Art in NYC as well as her work designing Scarlett Johansson’s apparel line for Reebok.
YORK Athletics Mfg. has also partnered with the non-profit Rock On Foundation, furthering their mission to promote wellness and creativity through art and athletics.
