In 2012 Matthew Walzer, a college-bound student with cerebral palsy, wrote Nike a letter outlining the day-to-day challenges faced by athletes who have limited use of their hands. The main obstacle: putting on shoes.
Nike designer Tobie Hatfield responded by coming up with a groundbreaking design. Hatfield’s FlyEase construction—now debuting in the LeBron Soldier VIII for Young Athletes—features an innovative open/close system that allows athletes of all ages and abilities to get their shoes on and off more quickly and easily. – NIKE
